Self-Balancing Scooters: Are they worth the money?

Skateboarding and scooting have become part and parcel of our modern era and make commuting around that little bit more fun. The new kid on the block is the Self-balancing scooter. There are so many coming to market but which one is right for you? Well we’ve been doing research on them and which is best. Read below to find out what we’ve found.
What Is the Self-balancing Scooter?

The Self-Balancing scooter is a 2 wheel electric motor driven mini Segway. It is controlled by the driver’s movement, much like a Segway is controlled. Lean forward and your electronic motor fires in to action and drives you forward, lean from side to side to steer the Self-Balancing scooter around objects or away from the road. Gaining a recent wave of publicity from Celebrities all getting involved and in on the act with their very own self-balancing scooters. You can see on their Instagram’s and YouTube how much can be had on one.

The Self-Balancing Scooter has the following features-

Durable Tyre’s-
All models come equipped with durable rubber tires to ensure that they can handle any bumps or uneven objects they face on the terrain of the sidewalk. Complete with Over-Tyre guards, it stops any debris flying up over the user’s trousers or garments. These durable tires also make for a long life of the product and are designed so that stones and nails won’t cause an issue to them.
Speed-

Typically these products range in the region of 6-10MPH depending on which company’s model you purchase. For the optimal amount of speed I have found the run active to be the best. It provides just the right amount of speed that your excitement levels are high, but also your safety levels are well maintained making it the better option in the speed category.

Agility-

Due to the low profile nature of the self-balancing scooter it makes for a sharp and agile ride, designed to be nippy and able to cut in and out of turns like a pro skier it reaches all its promises. There are some deciding factors between which scooters is going to be the most agile though, and this comes down to wheel size.

Design-
There a two main design’s between the front runners for the Self-balancing Scooter. These consist of the more circular product vs the more angular and squarer products. For me the more circular designed product comes out on top in the test of designs, and here is why. The Circular designed Self-balance scooter is more streamlined and less bulky than the angular version. Which means it comes out slightly lighter and easier to man oeuvre when users are on it. The other extremely cool feature is the front placed L.E.D’s which light up when the users is riding the board, these L.E.D lights have more than just a fashionable accessory function, by having the bright L.E.D’s placed on the front of the Scooter, It makes the route or path more visible.
